Cleaning a bathroom never ranks very high on one’s “must do list!” However, with a little strategy, organization and an essential plastic, carry-all caddy, you can help turn an unpleasant chore into a regular routine that will make your bathroom sparkle and easy to maintain from week to week.
The trick to keeping your bathroom looking beautiful on a regular basis is a fast, efficient weekly cleaning. To make this a realistic goal, it helps to pare down your cleaning routine to 30 minutes or less. In this post, we’ll discuss the best strategy for making this happen. Here are nine tips to a sparkling bathroom.
1. Gather Your Bathroom Cleaning Supplies: 15 Seconds
Keep all your bathroom cleaning tools in one easy-to-transport plastic caddy with a handle, so you’ll never have to waste time grabbing your plumbing supplies and bathroom cleaning supplies. Your cleaning caddy should contain the following cleaning supplies:
- brooms & mops
- buckets & pails
- rubber gloves
- toilet brush
- scrub brush
- microfiber cloths
- shower squeegee
- trash bags
- window cleaning supplies
- glass cleaners & stain removers
- tub & tile cleaners
- metal polishes
- floor cleaners
- all-purpose cleaner
As you grab the caddy, pick up a mop, broom and dust pan as well.
2. De-Clutter Surfaces: 5 Minutes
Put away all the random clutter that builds up on your counters throughout the week. Once clean, your counters should be mostly empty. If you don’t have a good place to put the items on your counter, purchase some home organizational systems that will enable you to put away the bathroom accessories.
3. Spray Down and Wash Horizontal Surfaces: 5 Minutes
Use all-purpose cleaner to spray down the counters, sink, toilet seat and toilet tank. Use a microfiber cloth to clean those surfaces. For hygiene purposes, use separate microfiber cloths to clean the sink and the toilet. . Polish the metal surfaces with a clean microfiber cloth to remove soap scum and water marks.
4. Clean Inside the Toilet: 3 Minutes
Spray the inside of the toilet with cleaner, then use a toilet brush to clean out the bowl. Pay close attention to the edges of the bowl and the water line, where mildew likes to grow.
5. Clean the Mirror: 2 Minutes
Spray the mirror with glass cleaner, then use the microfiber cloth to wipe it away. Be careful not to use cotton rags or paper towels for this, as both fabrics can leave behind little fibers on the mirror.
6. Clean the Bathtub/Shower: 5 Minutes
Sprinkle the bottom of the tub with tub cleaner, then spray the tile walls of the shower with mold and mildew spray. Use a scrub brush or a microfiber cloth to wipe down the walls and surface of the tub. Clean glass shower doors and glass enclosures with a specialty glass cleaner and stain remover. Run the shower for a few seconds to wet down the surface of the tub, the tiles and glass, scrub some more, and then rinse. Polish all the surfaces with a clean microfiber cloth to remove soap scum and water marks.
7. Empty the Garbage: 30 Seconds
Empty the bathroom garbage into the trash bag, and set the garbage down outside the bathroom for the next task.
8. Sweep and Mop: About 9 Minutes
First, sweep the floors of the bathroom. Empty the contents of the dust pan into the trash bag that you just filled with garbage. Next, fill the bucket with warm water from the bathtub and add a dash of floor cleaner. Mop the floors and, if you want it dry, throw an old towel to on the floor and use the mop to push it around and dry the surface.
