Pet Screen Door for Cats

If you’re a pet owner, you probably know that pets and screen doors don’t mix. Many pets have claws that can destroy screens quickly and effortlessly. Waiting for their owners to allow them in or out of the house, our beloved pets will stand up on their hind legs and sink their front claws deep into the screen and the screen usually looses! What’s to be done to fix this problem?

At Tashman Home Center, we’ve got a functional, easy fix for the pet-and-screen-door problem. Pet doors.

Different Kinds of Pet Doors

Pet doors come in different types. Clear plastic doors are durable, clear like a window and can be flexible or inflexible, depending on your needs. These are very common, but some types of pet doors are themselves made from screens. Screen pet doors are attractive, but for pets who like to scratch at their screens, clear plastic may be more appropriate.

Pet doors also come in different sizes for different types of pets. Small dogs, medium dogs and big dogs can all have their own door to exit your home! For pet owners with cats instead of dogs, feline pet doors are available as well.

Can pet doors be installed DIY?

Yes! Many pet doors can be installed as a DIY project. Your pet’s door should come with its own instructions. Take a look at the tutorial on this page for a step-by-step picture tutorial. In this tutorial, the screen is lifted away from the corner of the door frame so the pet door can be installed. Finally, the screen is cut away to fit around the new opening, then it is attached to the edges of the pet door.
